Why do you enjoy teaching? I have been involved with the building industry most of my adult life and have always enjoyed building, especially when it fulfilled other peoples dreams. Using the building construction program to provide a purpose to education for high school students has been very rewarding. All students should be encouraged to experience a CTE program.
What are your thoughts about the Building Construction industry? The job opportunies in the building industry are as varried as the types of materials used. Society will always need some form of building to live, work and play in.
What type of curriculum is in the Building Construction program? The curriculum at Region 9 comes from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). A not-for-profit 501(c) (3) education foundation established in 1995 by the world's largest and most progressive construction companies and national construction associations. It covers National standards in the building industry.
What do you feel students enjoy in your course? Students get a great deal of enjoyment and personal satisfaction from building homes and other buildings in their communities. Some go directly in to the work force while many others continue their education at the college level. A number of former students now run their own business within our communities.
